Biography

In October of 1993, KC Boutiette decided to give ice speedskating a try. So he packed his bags and moved from Tacoma, Washington to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. At that time, KC was a decorated inline skater whose accomplishments included the World Ultra Distance Championship (100K), and five National Championships along with a overall win at a prestigious stage race in Holland where skating is a national sport. Six weeks after first setting foot on the ice, KC shocked the speedskating world by winning the 1994 US Olympic Trials in both the 5,000 meter and 10,000 meter competitions. He had literally gone from an unknown beginner to the US National Champion in a matter of weeks!

Since then, KC has become one of the most dominant Allround speedskaters in the US, winning numerous national championship titles, setting American records, winning world cup and world championship medals and even setting two world records. In the wake of his accomplishments a wave of inline skaters made their way to the ice, including 2002 medalists Apolo Ohno, Jennifer Rodriguez, Chad Hedrick, Derek Parra and Joey Cheek - all of whom followed Boutiette to ice success.

Always seeking a new challenge, KC took his talents to the European Ice Marathon Circuit, where packs of up to 100 skaters compete in distance skating events that typically cover 100 kilometers or more and often are contended in multiple day 'stage races' (like the Tour de France). In 2003-2004, KC won eight different events, including the brutal Tour of Holland Marathon stage race which covers over 175 miles and lasted six days (all on ice skates!). The following year, remarkably, KC repeated the effort winning for the second consecutive year. He currently has twenty-three career wins.

KC is now a four time US Olympian and a dominant marathon skater AND he still finds time to remain one of the top inline skate racers in the world. In May of 2004, KC became the oldest skater (34) in history to qualify for the US World Championships Rollerskating Team.

In 2004's speedskating season, KC combined with temmates Chad Hedrick and Derek Parra to win three gold medals in international competition in the 3000 meter Team Pursuit event.
